About Me
I am Sanatan Rudra Pal, born on 1st March, 1955 out of parents, Sri Mohon Banshi Rudra Pal and Ranibala Rudra Pal. Our family is famous for Idol making in Kumartuli area of Kolkata. I have been reared up in an artistic environment where clay and brush is an indispensable tool to our everyday life. I have got my schooling on Shyambazae A. V. School at Kolkata and graduate from Joypuria College, Kolkata. Since the awakening of my sense, I have been exposed to the art of Idol making. Through this work, I have been found ways to quench my artistic hunger as well as got means to stand by in life. I am in the line of Idol making for twenty five years. My workshop stretches on a giant plot, 70-75 persons are working day and night and 450 people are engaged with our project through out the year. Till date I have made innumerable Idols which earned me much applause in country and abroad. Beside, Idol making I have tried my hands even on bronze sculptor. A statue of “RANNER” (a man who runs for delivering letters) has been placed at general post office Building, Kolkata. I have been awarded series of prizes for my Idols (Viz, Asian Paint Sarad Samman, Berger Paint Sarad Samman for Garia Mitali Sangha, Sarad Samman from “Special Olympics” for Bata New Land, etc.). Beside Idol making, my hobby is listening to classical music and reading novels. I like century old long drawn Indian themes. I found solace for my heart in my ancestry. I am looking for those days when I could be able to show you something of real beauty
